Our foundation

Maintaining the learning center and trails as a resource for area schools.

Jerry and Marta Turner have leased The Barn (Nature Center) and trails throughout the property to Gentian Creek Preserve Foundation for 20 years. The Turners will provide funding through the foundation for the renovation of the barn/nature center, operational expenses, maintenance of the trail network and transects for science excursions, 12-month biological study for curriculum development, and for other resources needed for the outdoor science education program.

The foundation board will grant access to the learning center and nature trails to local schools, youth organizations, and adult organizations exclusively for outdoor learning focused on studies of native flora and fauna, water and soil quality, ecology, and other areas of science.

CONSERVATION

We work hard to safeguard and protect all living things and the unique habitats found here at Gentian Creek Preserve. This includes removing invasive plants, restoring native plants, prescribed burning of fields and woodlands, and other ecologically responsible management practices.

DISCOVERY

We help students expand what they know about nature through observation and exploration in a dynamic and playful atmosphere. We hope to foster and develop an understanding of the natural world.

UNDERSTANDING

We share knowledge in a way that is straightforward and science-based to help build awareness that our actions have an impact.

CONNECTION

We create relatable experiences that underscore the idea that all living things are linked and that being connected to nature is essential to life.

Meet Jerry and Marta

The Turner's legacy plan is to gift the property and adequate funds to the Gentian Creek Preserve Foundation, so that educational experiences for area students will continue for decades to come.
